LET'S LEARN(2)- HOSPITAL

Hospital is an institution.

It provides medical treatment and nursing care for sick and injured people.

Lot of doctors and nurses work in hospitals.

Sick people are called patients.


Those patients who come to meet the doctor for a check up and return home are called out-patients.

Those patients who get admitted for detailed check up, surgery and long term treatments are called in-patients. They rest in pay wards.

Accident victims are first admitted into an emergency or casuality.

The unit in a hospital where we purchase medicines is called a pharmacy.

Place in a hospital where in-patients get their food is a canteen.

Patients do check up of blood, urine, sputum and motion in a microbiological laboratory in the hospital.

Patients also have to take X-rays, ECG, EEG or do scan of their bodies (USG, CT, MRI)etc in radiology labs in the hospital.

Children are regularly taken to the hospital for vaccination.

There are different departments in all major hospitals. Some of them are noted below.
· Neonatology - for new born babies.
· Pediatrics - child care.
· Gynecology - delivery of babies.
· Cardiology - heart diseases.
· Neurology - nervous disorders.
· Dentistry - tooth and gum problems.
· Physical medicine- general ill health of adults.
· Gerontology - care of aged.
· Urology - urinary diseases.
· Nephrology - kidney disorders.
· ENT - Ear, Nose and throat problems.
· Ophthalmology - eye disorders.
· Endocrinology - hormones.
· Dermatology - skin diseases.
· Pulmonology - chest diseases.
· Orthopedics - bone problems.
· Plastic surgery - correct appearance.
· Anesthesiology - aids in lowering sensitivity during surgery.
· Surgery - operations.
